In late 2015, Paris will host an event that will have a decisive impact on the future of our planet. The Conference of the Parties (COP21) will see more than 190 countries come together to decide how to limit global warming to 2°C by 2100.
The aim of the meeting is to reach a universal, global and binding agreement on climate change.
Every two years, VINCI holds its Innovation Awards. This competition is open to all 185,000 of the group's employees across around 100 countries, inviting them to share, promote and circulate their innovative ideas. The 2013 edition saw around 5,300 employees submit 2,075 entries. These innovative ideas reflect a state of mind within the VINCI Group. It is these very ideas that enable the group to excel when it comes to quality, safety and deadlines, and that place respect for the environment at the core of its activities.
Your challenge is based on a simple observation, namely that construction and transport are responsible for half of all greenhouse gas emissions, These are the precise sectors in which VINCI operates. The Group's activities involve imagining, designing, financing, building and managing infrastructure and facilities that help improve daily life and mobility for all, namely buildings, roads, energy, motorways, stadia and airports.
Your objective is to propose innovative, easy-to-implement solutions involving the Group's activities that have a rapid and significant environmental impact.
Your solution will need to fall into one of the four categories below:
How can we construct better buildings?
How can we better manage the built environment?
How can we better involve users?
How can we encourage the emergence of the circular economy?
How can we design and build smart roads?
How can we manage and optimise road maintenance?
How can we reflect citizens' practices and behaviour in mobility policy?
How can we encourage intermodality?
How can we optimise journeys and routes ("final mile" mobility, green mobility, car-sharing, trams, etc.)?
How can we connect eco-districts and cities?
How can we make urban systems more effective (street lighting, energy services, management) and reduce municipal costs?
How can we use new information and communication technologies?
This list of questions is not exhaustive, of course, and you are free to come up with an original, ambitious or unusual project that addresses a different issue.
